Bomac Electric: Turning Customer Insight into a Scalable Innovation

New technologies can open up new markets, improve operational efficiency and help businesses respond to pressing customer and environmental challenges.

Through the ADAPT programme established businesses can gain expert guidance, structured support and access to £15k feasibility grants to explore and validate new products, services and business opportunities.

For Bomac Electric Ltd, a leading designer, developer and manufacturer of heating elements and products, the programme helped turn customer insight into a scalable innovation for smarter waste cooking oil management.Market Opportunity

Fryer oil

Through conversations and user feedback from their existing customers, Bomac established there was a need for a smarter way to manage waste cooking oil. They had already started supplying high-quality storage equipment but recognised an opportunity to develop an innovative IoT sensor-based oil collection system to improve efficiency, visibility and service for customers.

Supported by Innovate UK LaunchPad funding, Bomac worked with DefProc Engineering to design and develop an initial prototype. Customer testing validated the concept, provided critical user feedback and reinforced confidence in the size of the commercial opportunity.

ADAPT Approach

Strategic support from LYVA Labs has helped Bomac define the next stage of product development and introduced Tritec, an experienced electronics engineering and manufacturing partner, to support the transition from prototype to scale-ready solution.

Alongside brokering the partnership, LYVA Labs acted as an independent innovation partner, providing ongoing guidance and challenge throughout the project.

Impact

The support has given Bomac the confidence to invest in the next phase of development. With the right expertise and partnerships in place, the company is now progressing towards a robust, scalable solution that will undergo wider customer trials, creating a clear pathway from innovation to commercialisation and future growth.

Julia McDonald, Commercial and Marketing Director at Bomac

“LYVA Labs have been instrumental in helping us take OilSentry from an initial idea through to the next stage of development. Their support started with helping us secure Innovate UK funding, but has gone far beyond that. Throughout the project they have provided valuable guidance, progress workshops and independent support when we faced challenges with the development process. Most recently, their support has helped us identify the right engineering partner and secure further funding to resolve the technical issues and move the product towards wider customer trials. Having LYVA Labs alongside us throughout the journey has given us the confidence and support to keep moving the project forward towards a commercially viable, scalable solution.”
