LYVA Labs launches Clean Tech for Health Fund

LYVA Labs has officially launched a new Clean Tech for Health fund, a new pre-seed investment fund offering up to £100K for startups developing innovations that deliver both environmental sustainability and health benefits.
The fund has been provided by the Liverpool City Region Innovation Zone programme, which is part of the Government's national investment zone programme.

Launching the fund with innovators, healthcare professionals, and partners.
The launch marks an exciting step in LYVA Labs’ ongoing mission to accelerate innovation across the Liverpool City Region in priority sectors - connecting entrepreneurs, industry, and healthcare partners to tackle challenges where climate and health intersect.
Held at Hope Street Hotel in Liverpool, the launch event brought together innovators, healthcare professionals, investors and ecosystem partners to explore how innovation can make healthcare more sustainable and improve patient outcomes.
Attendees took part in interactive discussions on what sustainability and clean tech means within healthcare, contributed suggestions on how to connect innovators to the fund, and, through a masterclass on Sustainability in Healthcare Design delivered by Rich Shaw from Pd-m, explored how early-stage design decisions can shape long-term environmental impact as well as unlock commercial opportunities.
What is Clean Tech for Health?
The investment fund has defined Clean Tech for Health as innovation that has both environmental sustainability and health benefits. LYVA Labs is seeking:

Health-focused companies with a climate benefit: Examples may include solutions in healthcare that reduce energy demand or MedTech lowering hospital carbon footprints.
Climate companies with a health benefit: Examples may include air quality technologies improving respiratory outcomes or sustainable food innovations with health impact.
Innovations making healthcare more environmentally sustainable: Examples may include life science solutions with sustainability improvements, greener surgical equipment, or medical waste reduction.
Gaps in environmentally sustainable healthcare solutions driving the market
The need for innovative solutions in this area has never been more pressing. The NHS is 5 years into their commitment to be Net Zero Carbon by 2045 and will need innovative solutions to achieve that goal. Air pollution in Liverpool City Region contributes to 800 premature deaths annually, exceeding UK averages, and disproportionately affecting the most deprived communities [1]. Every £1 invested to improve air quality can yield approximately £5-7 in economic benefits. Realising improved productivity and reduced healthcare demand. [2]
Since 2021, over £50 million has been invested in research funding on decarbonisation and adaptation of healthcare by MRC, NIHR, UKRI [3]. “Building a green future” and “Securing better health, ageing, and wellbeing” are strategic themes of UKRI, helping to determine funding priorities, including £42m announced by UKRI in March 2025 for seven new transdisciplinary research hubs will explore ways to ensure the UK’s transition to net zero also protects and promotes physical and mental health [4].
Lorna Green, CEO of LYVA Labs, said:
“Clean Tech for Health reflects the growing opportunity to develop innovations that deliver real health outcomes while supporting a more sustainable future. It connects to the priorities of the NHS, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, and the broader national agenda of government and UKRI. With the support of the Liverpool City Region Innovation Zone programme, we hope this investment fund and commercialisation support from LYVA Labs can help foster new innovations and entrepreneurs to make a lasting impact on the environment and health outcomes of the population.”
